A Fresh Take on Spring (Closet) Cleaning

Spring is springing and it's time to declutter. Where to donate or bring unwanted clothes in the Twin Cities? Here are a few places that either pay it forward or actually pay you!

Donate: Professional Clothes

Dress for Success is an international organization empowering women around the globe. Their mission is to "offer high touch, high impact career and workplace skills development programs for low income women to help them achieve career advancement, career stability and economic sustainability." You can bring business attire to the local chapter in St. Paul. They accept: interview and professional appropriate suits, blouses, skirts, dresses, blazers, jackets, maternity wear, scrubs, shoes, handbags, jewelry and scarves. Go to their website to learn more.

Sell: Plus-Size Clothes

Do you have stylish clothing items sizes XL-5XL? Bring them to this new resale store in South Minneapolis! Their favorite brands are Asos Curve/Plus, eloquii, Modcloth, Torrid, Venezia, Lane Bryant, Target’s WHO WHAT WEAR, INC., Melissa McCarthy, Ashley Nell Tipton Boutique, American Rag, Boohoo, & City Chic. Read here for full buying details. The business owner Cat Polivoda jokes that they are picky but kind, so it's worth a trip to check them out. You are free to donate to the body-positive cause, however, if you prefer that to selling. The store fills a void in the retail world by offering an enthusiastic (and eco-friendly!) environment for fashionable folks in many sizes.

Donate: Everyday Clothes

Arc's Value Village has five locations around the metro area: St Paul, Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, New Hope and Richfield. The stores fund programs that help adults and children with disabilities and since opening have provided 25 million dollars to Arc's Minnesota programs. While you clean your closets, put these items away for Arc's: clothes in decent condition, bridal gowns, camping gear, bags and purses, decorative pillows, formal wear, hangers, linens, placemats, rugs, sports clothing, towels, uniforms and yarn. Click here for more info and a an A-Z list of items they take.

Sell: Designer Clothes

Got some Gucci you've outgrown? June Resale in South Minneapolis buys high end, designer brands like Chanel, Dries Van Noten, Isabel Marant, Celine, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Bailey 44, Elizabeth & James, Joie, Equipment, Milly, Tibi and Vince. Items should be in excellent condition, freshly cleaned (we can help with that!) and from recent years, thought they may consider some vintage designer items, too. Read more here about their process and store.
